Gus, the cavapoo from Vienna, VA

Today we are talking to Gus the cavapoo from Vienna, VA and his human mom Katie! Follow Gus on his instagram account at @gusgus_cavapoo.

What is your name?
Hi, my name is Katie!

What is the name of your puppy and why did you choose that name?
My cavapoo’s name is Gus. At first, we called him Milo but after a day or so, I decided to name him Gus-Gus after the mouse in Cinderella. I think it fits him well!

How old is Gus?
Gus will be 2 years old on November 26.

What country and city are you from?
We are in Vienna, VA – USA

Gus loves all his stuffed animals, at this moment he loves his dragon.

How did you decide to have a cavapoo and why?
My son (9) and I were living in our apartment and we wanted a dog. We’ve talked about it for awhile and I was researching breeds. I was online searching and came across this dog. I took one look at his photo and I told myself I needed to have him.

I looked online and read about the mix and it showed they were compassionate, they were hypoallergenic, and they were a great breed to train easily. I walked in, and walked out with him an hour later. He stole my heart from the beginning.

What is Gus’s favorite food? Any recommendations on food for other cavapoo owners?
Gus does have a sensitive stomach, so we feed him Blue Buffalo for sensitive stomachs.

Gus enjoys snuggles with me, he also enjoys playing with our lab mix.

What are Gus’s favorite toys or games?
Gus loves all his stuffed animals, at this moment he loves his dragon. We have a basket filled with all of his toys and there are times he empties the entire basket, especially after I’ve already picked them up moments before.

At night time he likes to grab a toy and go running the full length of the house. He will eventually want to play fetch, however he won’t give you the toy easily to throw it again.

What does Gus love doing most?
Gus enjoys snuggles with me, he also enjoys playing with our lab mix. Loves walks and car rides. There are moments, he will nudge his leash to let me know he’s ready for a walk.

Cavapoo truly are compassionate, and I see the love he has for our family, especially me.

Is there a funny story you could tell us about Gus?
One day, I took him over to my moms for a visit and he went on this running spree. He was running so fast he jumped off the landing of the stairs and cleared the table. We all were impressed on his dive off the stairs! In addition, when I take Gus to the dog park, he doesn’t play! He will sit on the bench next to me watching all the other dogs play!!

What do you love most about your cavapoo?
They truly are compassionate, and I see the love he has for our family, especially me. I love his curls, his personality, his awkward moments such as not enjoying the grass. He will walk on the bricks to avoid touching the grass. He gives the best hugs when he hasn’t seen me for a little bit. Coming home from work to him is one of my favorite moments of the day.

Gus rarely sheds!

What are the good sides of having a cavapoo?
Great companions, their personalities will make you laugh. Training is very simple and they pick up quickly. We worked on handshake and he was able to do the command in less than twenty minutes.

What are some downsides to having a cavapoo?
Separation anxiety! Gus will have anxiety when I leave for a long period of time such as vacation. He went on a no eating binge and was a little depressed according to my caretaker. However this is very common in many dog breeds.

The barking, he will bark at every little noise he hears and at everyone walking past our house.

Gus will travel with me in the car when I run errands.

Does Gus shed much and how do you deal with it?
Gus rarely sheds! It’s nice not having dog hair on your furniture and clothes.

Do you travel with your cavapoo? What do you do when you need to go on vacation? (Pet sitter? Dog hotel? 🙂
Gus will travel with me in the car when I run errands. He does have a tendency to want to lay in my lap as I’m driving, so he has to be a backseat rider. He enjoys sticking his head out the window and I enjoy watching his fluff blow in the wind.

When we go on vacation, I send him to his grandogmom (aka: my mom) as he’s familiar with her. With his separation anxiety, I don’t want to take the chance boarding him because I know he’ll be nervous.

Gus will have anxiety when I leave for a long period of time such as vacation.

Would you recommend other people to have a cavapoo, why or why not?
100%, in fact I had a co-worker/friend get a cavapoo herself because she has seen Gus on my social media feed. They are great! They make you laugh, they make you feel loved, perfect size for your lap or your small living space such as an apartment. He’s the best ever!!!!

Cavapoo temperament

Cavapoo (cavoodles) have spread all over the world as one of the most popular and loved cross-breeds. Apart from cute appearance, their popularity can be explained by the cavapoo temperament. Cavapoo tend to be remarkably smart (remember, part of their ancestral genes comes from poodle, and poodles are one of the smartest dogs in the world). Cavapoos (cavoodles) are very trainable, capable to learn new tricks and commands with ease. They are also people-orientated breed and are likely to have a desire to please, which makes them obedient and pleasant dogs, a good combination a lot of pet owners want to see in their animal.

Harlow Pippa the cavapoo from Gerringong, Australia

Today I want you all to meet Harlow Pippa, the cavapoo from Gerringong, Australia, and her human Mom Karina. Follow this sweety on her instagram account at @harlow.the.cavoodle to see more of her adventures and her gorgeous pictures!

What is your name? (meaning Human’s name 🙂

Karina Shepherd

What is the name of your dog? Why did you choose that name?

Harlow Pippa. We chose her name as there is a retail shop in Byron Bay (one of our favourite places) called Hendrix & Harlow…it was the only name that all 5 family members agreed on!

How old is your dog?

She’s still a puppy, only 10 weeks.

Pippa the cavapoo

What country and city are you from?

We live in Gerringong, Australia. It’s a beautiful beach town nestled in the countryside.

How did you decide to have a cavapoo and why?

At Easter we were visiting Sydney and saw a puppy at a cafe. The owner told us the breed was a cavoodle, we did some research and decided it was a perfect match for our family.

What is your dog’s favorite food? Any recommendations on food for other cavapoo owners?

Harlow loves ‘Healthy Everyday Pets’, cooked chicken, pig’s ears and blueberries for fun. We recommend anything that is of high quality without grain fillers.

Harlow Pippa the cavapoo from Gerringong, Australia

What are your dog’s favorite toys or games?

She loves her rubber chicken, a beer cooler (which we insert treats) and as a game she is doing really well learning fetch.

What does your dog love doing most?

Harlow loves exploring our backyard, including the veggies patch!

Is there a funny story you could tell us about your cavapoo?

One time Harlow found our cat’s toy…it was a mouse on the end of a stick. She snatched it and ran wildly all over the house with it! It looked so funny.

What do you love most about your cavapoo?

We love her company and her cute, funny, cuddly self.

What are the good sides of having a cavapoo?

A cavoodle is family friendly, energetic and cuddly and funny. We like that she’s small enough to take her everywhere and doesn’t shed too much.

What are some downsides to having a cavapoo?

At the moment, she bites a lot, but all puppies do that! She loves to be around us, so it’s sometimes tricky leaving the house. Lucky I work from home, so she’s got company most of the time!

Harlow Pippa the cavapoo from Gerringong, Australia

Does your cavapoo shed much and how do you deal with it?

As a puppy, we haven’t seen her shed anything yet.

Do you travel with your cavapoo? What do you do when you need to go on vacation? (Pet sitter? Dog hotel? 🙂

At this stage we haven’t gone on a trip because she still needs all her vaccinations. She comes in the car to pick the kids up from school. We can’t wait to find some cool pet friendly holiday houses to stay at very soon.

Would you recommend other people to have a cavapoo, why or why not?

Totally! They are a great breed…fun, small, cuddly and perfect for a family.

Cavapoo or Cavoodle? 😉 (Or cavadoodle?)

Cavoodle all the way!

Harlow Pippa the cavapoo from Gerringong, Australia

Also in our blog:

Are cavapoo hypoallergenic?
Short answer: no. No dogs are absolutely, 100% hypoallergenic. However, cavapoo (cavoodles) are bread from poodle, which is one of the most hypoallergenic breeds of dogs out there. While nothing is guaranteed, a Cavapoo may cause far fewer or even no allergy symptoms in allergy sufferers.

Everything about cavapoo – Cavapoo history
Cavapoo (also known as cavoodle, espeically in Australia), have been popular for at least thirty years, but particularly so in the last ten-fifteen years. It is a type of crossbreed dogs created by breeding miniature or toy poodle with Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. Cavoodles, as they call cavapoo in Australia, became especially popular in Australia where they were extensively bred in the 1990s. In the USA, cavapoo were actually first bred quite a while ago – all the way back in the 1950s.

Milo Bailey, the cavapoo from London, UK

Meet Milo, the cavapoo from London, UK and his human Mom Lani. Milo is a total cutie and you should definitely follow him at his instagram account at @milocavapooroberts. I hope you enjoy this conversation with Milo and his mom!

What is your name? (meaning Human’s name 🙂
Lani … but he was bought for Eliana (my daughter)

What is the name of your dog?Why did you choose that name?
Milo Bailey – My daughter has been choosing dog names for the last ten years! She had her heart set on Bailey and but then when we met our fur baby for the first time she said ‘mum he looks more like a Milo!’ She felt torn because she was set on Bailey, hence our Milo getting a middle name.

How old is Milo?
He turned 1 in August.

What country and city are you from?
London, UK

Milo Bailey, the cavapoo from London, UK

How did you decide to have a cavapoo and why?
We did a lot of research into low shedding dogs and dogs that were good with kids.
At first we thought we’d go for a Cockapoo but then we came across a page about Cavapoos. KC Spaniel has always been a favourite with us but I worried about certain health issues and shedding.

When we came across the Cavapoo that was it! Instantly knew it was the breed for us. We wanted a dog to be a part of our family and to be loving and cuddly.

What is Milo’s favorite food? Any recommendations on food for other cavapoo owners?
Milo loves chicken and sweet potato. So much so that sometimes he actually whines while he eats it!!! We try to avoid giving him human food else he won’t go near his own. However if he sees the biscuit tin he’ll bark and bark until he gets half a rich tea or if the toaster pops he’ll stop whatever he’s doing and dash to it and sit expectantly.

What are your dog’s favorite toys or games?
Milo loves being chased so will often grab a shoe or something else he shouldn’t and stares at us as if to say ‘you want it back? Come and get it!’
He also loves Ovo eggs and of course his Kong!

He loves stuffed toys but tears them to shreds in minutes. We are still grieving for Mr monkey… he lasted 3 minutes before losing his arm and by the evening he’d been disembowelled!

Milo Bailey, the cavapoo from London, UK

What does Milo love doing most?
Going for walks in the park and getting cuddles and belly rubs! He’s definitely a lap dog!! Oh and stealing socks!

Is there a funny story you could tell us about your cavapoo?
So many but my favourite is the time we went for a walk with his BFF Bobby the Jackabee. Milo disappeared only to reappear moments later covered in what looked like tar! It was actually pond scum and it stank! He kept trying to jump up on everybody as they ran away screaming.

We had to rinse it off in a lake. Mum was so cross as she had booked him in for a groom the next day and had spent ages brushing him in preparation that morning.

What do you love most about your cavapoo?
That he loves us more than anything. He’s always wanting to snuggle up.

What are the good sides of having a cavapoo?
Always have a loving companion by your side. Extremely trainable and lots of fun.

Milo Bailey, the cavapoo from London, UK

What are some downsides to having a cavapoo?
Never wanting to leave your side lol. They can get separation anxiety and so don’t get one unless you’re committed to spending lots of time with them.

Does your cavapoo shed much and how do you deal with it?
Not at all. But it is important to brush their coats daily else they can get matted.

Do you travel with your cavapoo? What do you do when you need to go on vacation? (Pet sitter? Dog hotel? 🙂
He comes on holiday too! If we can’t take him with us he stays with grandparents.

Would you recommend other people to have a cavapoo, why or why not?
YES!!! Cavapoos are so clever and the most loyal and loving companion you could ever hope for. They’ll love cuddles as much as they love walks. But they don’t like being left alone. Milo is so attached to me and greets me like I’ve been away for a month if I just pop out for 5 minutes.

Cavapoo or Cavoodle? 😉 (Or cavadoodle?)
Cavapoo! 🙂

Ellie the cavapoo from Chicago, USA

Today we are interviewing Ellie the cavapoo from Chicago and her Human Mom Abbe. Follow Ellie on her instagram at @ellieroth_cavapoo !

What is your name?
Abbe Roth

What is the name of your dog? Why did you choose that name?
Her name is Ellie. Our breeder gives names out to the puppies and her original name was Eleanor. We thought since they were using “El” that she would recognise Ellie, and she definitely responded to it right away!

How old is Ellie?
16 weeks.

What country and city are you from?
USA, Chicago, IL

How did you decide to have a cavapoo and why?
I grew up with a cavalier and they are the sweetest, loveable dogs. My husband is allergic so we wanted to get a cavapoo so we can avoid the shedding.

Ellie the cavapoo from Chicago, USA

What is Ellie’s favorite food? Any recommendations on food for other cavapoo owners?
She currently eats Nurtrisource and scarfs it down immediately! They always say look at the first three ingredients to make sure it’s nutritious so I recommend that.

What are Ellie’s favorite toys or games?
She loves plush animals, Especially Pooh Bear.  Loves playing with them and cuddling with them, especially if they are the same size as her. She is also really good at fetch with balls (not the tennis kind as we don’t want her chewing on that material).

A lot of the rope type of toys as it’s good while she is teething. The best part of her toys is that she has a couple that has been passed down to her from my cavalier growing up and my sisters dog. It’s nice to connect family dog members in small ways like that.

What does Ellie love doing most?
She LOVES cuddling with us. She will initially fall asleep on the floor or her dog bed and then we will pick her up and she will lay right on top of us and it’s so calming and amazing all at the same time! Makes up for when she is trying to be mischievous in the apartment 🙂

Ellie the cavapoo from Chicago, USA

Is there a funny story you could tell us about your cavapoo?
She loves chasing her tail AND she actually catches it and chews on it like a toy. Somehow it doesn’t hurt her so as long as she is having fun, that’s all that matters! Also, we have only hardwood floors in our apartment and her “breaks” don’t work sometimes if she is running around so she will bang into walls all the time but she is a fighter and keeps going!

Another funny story: We have windows all over our apartment. At night, Ellie sees her reflection in the window and starts growling at herself/the dog in the mirror. We call the “other dog” Mellie which stands for a Mirror Ellie. Sometimes it’s fun to encourage her to get Mellie and take her down! It’s hilarious!

What do you love most about your cavapoo?
We love how sweet she is, that she loves people, and that she is absolutely adorable to look at and play with!

What are the good sides of having a cavapoo?
We like that they are calmer dogs. She definitely has energy as a puppy but she is pretty chill half the time and we like that she is a nice balance of being active and laying low.

Ellie the cavapoo from Chicago, USA

What are some downsides to having a cavapoo?
As a puppy, she is a little scared right now of random objects like things that roll (ex: suitcases). We think it’s because she is getting used to all the noises in the city so hopefully she grows out of it.

Does your cavapoo shed much and how do you deal with it?
She still has her puppy hair so she does shed a little bit but not as much as a cavalier. We brush her every couple of days to maintain her fur coat as much as possible.

Do you travel with your cavapoo? What do you do when you need to go on vacation? (Pet sitter? Dog hotel? 🙂
She did travel on an airplane from Missouri to Chicago but other than that, she hasn’t left our 5 block radius of our apartment. Walking is still a challenge with a pup.

Would you recommend other people to have a cavapoo, why or why not?
ABSOLUTELY. They are sweet, cuddly, easy going and the cutest dogs around.

Cavapoo or Cavoodle? 😉 (Or cavadoodle?)
Cavapoo!

What is your name?
Lauren Bellini- Yes, like the drink!

What is the name of your dog? Why did you choose that name?
Perri- I love Littlemix and Perrie is my favorite.

How old is your dog?
5 Months

What country and city are you from?
Cheltenham, England

Perri the cavoodle from Cheltenham, England

How did you decide to have a cavapoo and why?
I’ve had a cavapoo previously and she had such a lovely temperament I knew it was the breed for me!

What is your dog’s favorite food? Any recommendations on food for other cavapoo owners?
Perri’s favorite is Royal Canin, she was weaned off mum’s milk onto it and it stuck!

What are your dog’s favorite toys or games?
She chases her tail daily and of course, loves fetch. Her favorite toy is her Cookie Monster plush

Perri the cavoodle from Cheltenham, England

What does your dog love doing most?
Cuddly naps!

Is there a funny story you could tell us about your cavapoo?
Perri often gets confused by her own limbs…she thinks her back legs are someone else’s and often nibbles them and then gets sad that she’s bitten herself! She also chases her tail every morning and once its caught, she walks to her bed, tail in mouth so settle down and have a good chew!

What do you love most about your cavapoo?
Spending time with her- Shes so affectionate she can cheer me up on my worst days. A nice walk in the park with your best bud at the end of a long day is just the right pick me up!

Perri the cavoodle from Cheltenham, England

What are the good sides of having a cavapoo?
Shedding is minimal which is great for lots of cuddles but fur free clothes

What are some downsides to having a cavapoo?
They are very social and people orientated, She doesn’t like being alone and there can be separation anxiety issues. Working in a school means I get the bonus of all the holiday time and finish early so I have lots of time to spend with Perri, however leaving her at the start of the day is difficult for us both!

Does your cavapoo shed much and how do you deal with it?
I specified with my breeder that I would like a pup with a low shedding coat- Once the pup’s were 6 weeks and the coats were identifiable I got to choose from the puppy’s that met this criteria so luckily, I do not have the hassle of de-fluffing everything!

Perri the cavoodle from Cheltenham, England

Do you travel with your cavapoo? What do you do when you need to go on vacation? (Pet sitter? Dog hotel? :))
I have been on day trips with Perri to puppy acceptable destinations ( Cafe’s which allow dogs and outdoor activities ) I have not been abroad since getting Perri but I would leave her with a family member if I was to go away.

Would you recommend other people to have a cavapoo, why or why not?
I would! If you have the time to give a cavapoo I would highly recommend the breed. They are lovely dogs. Very easy to train and very loving.

Cavapoo or Cavoodle? 😉 (Or cavadoodle?)
If I’m on a dog walk I say cavadoodle as it sounds nicer!

Merlot the cavoodle

What country and city are you from?
We are from Manchester, United Kingdom

How did you decide to have a cavapoo and why?
I met one on holiday and fell in love and immediately started researching the breed until I decided I definitely wanted one.

What is Merlot’s favorite food? Any recommendations on food for other cavapoo owners?
He loves eating just like me, he can have a full meal and still eye up my food. Although he does have a specific diet. He’s teething at the moment so he loves dental chews. I would recommend to keep the diet consistent to avoid any issues and allergies but also to help with behaviour.

Merlot the cavoodle

What are your dog’s favorite toys or games?
He likes toys that he can chew he has a favourite bunny. He plays a game where it’s sort of like tug of war with one of his toys

What does your dog love doing most?
He enjoys being playful, he’s a lovable little baby and still snoozes a lot too.

Is there a funny story you could tell us about your cavapoo?
When I train him I use squeezy cheese because it’s more effective in my experience and it retains attention for longer. I taught him how to say hello by passing his paw. When he completed the task he continued to tap my hand with his paw with the view to get more cheese.

What do you love most about your cavapoo?
He’s very affectionate and extremely intelligent.

What are the good sides of having a cavapoo?
Goods are that he’s lovable and so easy to train. He’s playful and always up for an adventure but also happy to relax and laze around and do nothing. He gets on with everyone and doesn’t malt.

What are some downsides to having a cavapoo?
He can be somewhat clingy and attention seeking but with time and persistence this can be managed.

Merlot the cavoodle

Does your cavapoo shed much and how do you deal with it?
He doesn’t shed at all. He’s supposedly hypoallergenic.

Do you travel with your cavapoo? What do you do when you need to go on vacation? (Pet sitter? Dog hotel? 🙂
His first vacation will be this Christmas and we intend to take him with us. Other times we’d leave him with family.

Would you recommend other people to have a cavapoo, why or why not?
I would recommend cavapoo to someone who have the time and patience to dedicate to the nurturing of a cavapoo as they do like love and attention and like company.

Cavapoo or Cavoodle? 😉 (Or cavadoodle?)
Cavoodle of course!

Cavapoo Owner Reviews: Maggie the cavapoo from Hoboken, Nj

Cavapoo Owner Reviews: Maggie Interview

Today we are talking to Maggie, the Cavapoo from Hoboken, NJ, and her human mom Tina. Follow Maggie at @mightymagsthepup

What is your name?
Tina

What is the name of your dog? Why did you choose that name?
Maggie.  We wanted to name her after an influential woman in history so we picked Margaret Thatcher. Also my twin sister had a stuffed animal growing up named Maggie so the name kinda stuck.

How old is Maggie?
She is 4 months old

What country and city are you from?

USA. Hoboken, Nj

How did you decide to have a cavapoo and why?

We decided to get a cavapoo after meeting a lovely one named Callie that my brother was pet sitting. We wanted to get a hypoallergenic dog because of various allergies in the family.

Maggie the cavapoo from Hoboken, Nj

What is Maggie’s favorite food? Any recommendations on food for other cavapoo owners?

It’s a tie between hot dogs and peanut butter.  Our puppy in particular loves playing with puzzle toys that dispense kibble. She doesn’t really care for eating out of a bowl. We feed her Royal Canin.

What are Maggie’s favorite toys or games?

She LOVES all things squeaky.  There is this frog that one of our Aunts got her that she is particularly fond of. She also loves playing soccer with little tennis balls. Surprising she loves chasing after a laser pointer!

What does your dog love doing most?

I think single handedly the one thing she enjoys most is playing with her pawrents, but second to that you can always find her snuggling on the couch and chewing on her yak cheese chews (she LOVES them!)

Maggie the cavapoo from Hoboken, Nj

Is there a funny story you could tell us about your cavapoo?

It’s not so much a story but the funniest thing she does is she loves to play soccer with a little rubber tennis ball, but she HAS to have another toy in her mouth when she does it. Usually a little rope or squeak toy. It’s hilarious.

What do you love most about Maggie?

I just absolutely love her temperament. She is unbelievably sweet and tremendously friendly. She loves absolutely everyone she meets. Not to mention she is super snuggly.

What are the good sides of having a cavapoo?

Their temperament is a huge positive. Also they are very smart and training has been so much fun. She’s an absolute sweetheart and completely adorable.

What are some downsides to having a cavapoo?

I think the downside is Maggie is very attached to us so we have been working on keeping her from developing separation anxiety. Also you have to watch her with big dogs just because she is so little.

Does your cavapoo shed much and how do you deal with it?

She does not shed at all. It’s been a joy.

Maggie the cavapoo from Hoboken, Nj

Do you travel with Maggie? What do you do when you need to go on vacation? (Pet sitter? Dog hotel? 🙂

We have taken her on weekend trips and she does very well in the car. I actually took her on a plane after I picked her up to take her home. Luckily when my husband and I need to go away for the weekend we have family very close and my brother and his girlfriend offer to watch her.

Would you recommend other people to have a cavapoo, why or why not?

Yes I would definitely recommend this breed. I think they are great dogs if you are looking for one that is on the smaller side.

Cavapoo or Cavoodle? 😉 (Or cavadoodle?)

We always say Cavapoo

What is your name?
Lauren
What is the name of your dog? Why did you choose that name?
Sheppard. Shep for short. We went through so many names and this was the only one we could agree on and then I misspelt it!
How old is Sheppard?
3 months old
What country and city are you from?
Pawrents are from NZ and are living in Melbourne, Australia

How did you decide to have a cavapoo and why?
We were after a dog that was happy to snuggle with us and be relaxed, but also after one that had enough energy to go for a run with my husband. This is little guy was the perfect mix!
What is Sheppard’s favorite food?
Boiled chicken! Can smell it from a mile away!
What are Sheppard’s favorite toys or games?
Tail chasing, fetch and croc wrestling! He has a plush croc toy that takes the brunt of his playtime.
What does Sheppard love doing most?
Zoomies, right before bed. We have a long hallway that is basically a dog run for him.

Is there a funny story you could tell us about your cavapoo?
He had the zoomies right before bed (as per usual) and zoomed a bit hard and ran straight into the ranch slider!
What do you love most about your cavapoo?
How much he loves us!
What are the good sides of having a cavapoo?
Great company. They just want to see you happy! I love having my little guy around. It feels like we have always had him.
What are some downsides to having a cavapoo?
We do struggle a fair amount when we leave the room or house with him getting upset that we have gone.

Does Sheppard shed much and how do you deal with it?
Barely sheds at all! He just gets a daily brush to stop the dreads!

Do you travel with your cavapoo? What do you do when you need to go on vacation? (Pet sitter? Dog hotel? 🙂
We haven’t travelled with him yet, but are looking forward to going on camping adventures with him! We will look at sending him to a friend or a dog hotel when we do have to (sadly) leave him behind.
Would you recommend other people to have a cavapoo, why or why not?
Yes, if you love a snuggler! These guys are so sweet and will do anything for you! We love our wee guy and
